Adventures in storytelling by Bob Rector

There is a certain line of destiny for each one of us, which seems as if no one and nothing could ever change. Is that really so, however? Perhaps, some people would disagree. These are the people that will always believe that it may be changed because it is like a strip of sand, which remains after the tide at the seashore and is different every time.

For those of us fortunate enough to have experienced a long, loving, and committed relationship, we always hold in our hearts the moment when the magic sparked and the ordinary world disappeared, replaced by total absorption in each other. Boyoko Ovcharov captures this time perfectly in his book “Wandering Feelings.”

Yes, the world does gradually creep back into your lives, but this magic time is the foundation you build your life together on, the well you come back to again and again to be refreshed. Never before have I seen it better portrayed. As I read “Wandering Feelings,” Boyko pushed buttons within me that brought back a rush of emotions and I’ll bet the same has happened to all who have read this lyrical, poetic, and poignant story.

The plot line is so simple as to be almost nonexistent. A young Bulgarian couple meet in England. The force of love is ignited and will not be denied. Love story? Yes, in its purest and most joyous form. Tragedy? Yes, because the young lovers are surrounded by selfish, cruel, and unloving family members who seem determined to destroy or at least stifle their newfound love.

The story plays out against a backdrop with which the scholarly author is quite familiar, Cambridge, along with side trips to Stonehenge and London. I have travelled the exact same footsteps taken by the young couple, throughout England, across the channel, then on through France, Germany, Belgium, and Austria. Ovcharov describes the settings brilliantly and accurately.

This is a book that I planned to ‘get started’ on, but once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. It is just that engrossing and heart-stirring. If you’ve ever been truly in love, if you’ve ever had to fight against all odds to keep that love intact, this book is for you. Highly recommended.
